Kristina ‘KP’ Powers – Begins 14th Year as an IPEDS Educator

KP Powers headshot

IEHE president, Kristina ‘KP’ Powers, continues to serve the higher education community as an IPEDS Educator – now in her 14th year. IPEDS and the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) select professionals to serve in this role. AIR recruits experienced IPEDS users to develop and deliver a curriculum that takes a broad view of IPEDS data to assure the quality of the submission of these data and improve the skills of those using these data. She also has served on the IPEDS Educators Web Conference Committee (2018-19 through 2021-2022), a professional development series offered through monthly web conferences.

About IPEDS Educators

All Educators must attend a two-day training session each summer where they learn from NCES staff about the latest changes to IPEDS and develop their skills with the various IPEDS data tools. Ongoing training through monthly web conferences occurs throughout the academic year. Educators also actively engage with colleagues on the IPEDS listerv.

In addition to her work as a national IPEDS trainer for more than a decade, KP has served as accreditation liaison and has headed institutional research, institutional effectiveness, and assessment offices at multiple public, private not-for-profit, and private for-profit institutions. Her in-depth knowledge of IPEDS data supports and informs the accreditation process for the institutions she’s served.

Other Areas of Service

Serving as an IPEDS educator isn’t the only way KP and IEHE use IPEDS data. Check out our other projects which inform senior leaders . . .

IPEDS Definitive Guide for Senior Leaders – IEHE updates our guide for senior leaders annually. The guide offers the following benefits:

    • Summarizes key information about IPEDS
    • Offers strategies for overseeing the office that coordinates your institution’s IPEDS reporting
    • Poses five questions senior leaders should ask their IPEDS keyholder for each IPEDS submission
    • Provides free resources and training for your IPEDS keyholder

Transfer-in Student Success – This project, based on IPEDS data, identified and reviewed institutions which are graduating transfer-in students at higher than expected rates. IEHE presented a 16-week series highlighting some of the best practices of these Overachievers of Transfer-In Student Success. Our IEHE Exceptional Overachievers Transfer-In Students Compendium 2021 offers all the project results and details if you missed them.
